Description

Objective:

The course objective is to meet the needs of personnel dealing with hazardous material, and who only require the familiarization and safety training described in 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 172.704.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the legal and safety requirements for the transportation of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and be able to identify publications for specific modes of transportation and the training requirements for employees
  • Define the specific information concerning HAZMAT and identify the unique markings required for specified hazardous materials
  • Extract specific details relating to the material described in an Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Define the purpose, significance, and uses of the sections of the Emergency Response Guide (ERG) and extract the proper information for any given Identification Number
  • Identify HAZMAT classes/divisions and their visual representations
  • Identify the unique indicators that designate material as hazardous
