Description

Objective:

The course objective is to focus on how to apply principles of resiliency, sustainability, and energy efficiency in the planning and development of installations. These principles are consistent with DoD policy on the development of Installation Energy and Water Plans that require energy and water efficiency integrated into planning processes for all installations, DoD commitments to following industry standards like ASHRAE 189-2, and Public Laws on master planning. This course does not focus on detailed engineering and design but helps students recognize that master plans set the standard from which all projects (including energy projects) are developed.

Learning Outcomes:

Create an existing conditions basemap
Create a Sustainability Component Plan (SCP)
Identify strategies that reduce potable water
Apply strategies for reducing stormwater runoff and methods for forecasting stormwater reduction
Apply strategies for reducing energy and methods for forecasting energy reduction at the planning scale
Recognize how federal policies support sustainability planning
Apply the strategies for reducing, repurposing, composting, and recycling waste
