Description

Objective:

The course objective is to perform confined space rescue operations, utilizing appropriate equipment, methodologies, protocols, patient care, and resource management techniques.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Properly utilize atmospheric monitoring equipment to detect the presence or verify the absence of atmospheric hazards in a confined space
  • Describe methods to control or mitigate atmospheric hazards to protect personnel, demonstrate inspection procedures for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and rescue equipment, and perform ground support operations for helicopter activities
  • Describe the five phases of confined space rescue and perform preparation, assessment, and pre-entry phase operations
  • Recognize the elements of a high-angle lowering system, the operating and communications procedures required for such systems, and perform vertical and horizontal lowers, applying anchor and belay systems, and descent control devices
  • Construct and operate Mechanical Advantage (MA) systems
  • Recognize confined spaces and the standard that affects safety, training, or operations at confined space rescue incidents
  • Recognize hazards associated with confined space entry
  • Demonstrate the ability to tie knots for use in a variety of rescue situations
  • Demonstrate the proper packaging of a patient for transport in a rescue environment
