Description

Objective:

The course objective is to educate individuals desiring a transition from a traditional patrol/traffic function to an investigative position within a department. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to perform basic criminal investigation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe what is involved in a basic criminal investigation.
  • Use a variety of methods to produce leads during an investigation.
  • Describe the procedures for collecting accurate evidence and identification from eyewitnesses.
  • Use legal instruments in the course of an investigation.
  • Apply report writing and courtroom presentation skills to the preparation of a case.
  • Identify special investigative issues surrounding specific types of crimes.
  • Apply knowledge gained from evidence at a crime scene to witness interrogation.
