Description

Objective:

The course objective is for the student to understand employee rights in healthcare, legal and ethical issues for healthcare HRM, as well as employee benefit plans.

Learning Outcomes:

  • describe human resource management (HRM) including history, milestones, factors and fit within healthcare
  • define strategic human resource management, and discuss/detail tools, techniques and concepts as they relate to designing and implementing effective HRM departments
  • interpret and explain significant employment laws and ethical considerations as they relate to HRM and healthcare
  • apply the basic skills of job analysis and design, recruiting methods, and valid selection practices to facilitate effective organizational staffing for varied healthcare careers
  • select, construct, and critically analyze organizational training and development programs to assist employees, meet performance goals, and maximize organizational HRM
  • integrate knowledge regarding labor unions and conflict resolution practices such as mediation and arbitration in HRM
  • integrate HRM theory, materials, tools, and techniques in health care considerations and new/changing trends
  • create a basic employee handbook that will identify employee rights, appropriate organizational discipline policies, and legal termination practices
