Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce students to critical thinking and logical analysis. Students will learn how to analyze and apply critical thinking concepts to media and evaluate reasoning and credibility. Students will apply this knowledge in a critical analysis essay, quizzes, and tests.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define critical reasoning, deduction, induction, and logic
  • Identify the parts of an argument and infer the necessity of their meaning
  • Distinguish between valid skepticism and negationism in methodology and analysis
  • Apply critical analysis, logic, and moral reasoning, and clarity to persuasive writing
  • Apply methodological analysis to arguments in written and spoken form and identify relative strengths and weaknesses
  • Identify problems in reasoning and argument including rhetorical devices, bias, and fallacies
  • Apply visual and symbolic logic to simple arguments and test syllogisms for validity
  • Define different forms of moral reasoning and distinguish their application to real-world scenarios
