Description

Objective:

The course objective is to teach students the foundations of risk management in the financial sector. Students will learn about types of financial risk and how to identify them, monetary policy, risk measurement methods, derivatives, insurance solutions, and financial risk management strategies.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify and differentiate the types of risks across various sectors of business
  • Explain the origins of the Great Recession and the factors that lead up to it
  • Evaluate and analyze the risks a company faces and create a plan to manage those risks
  • Calculate investment risk and return using the CAPM and defend if an investment is worth its risk
  • Conduct a risk assessment that examines risk tolerance, requirement, and capacity.
  • Characterize financial instruments and analyze how they are used to manage risk
  • Understand the value of various risk measurement methodologies and perform analyses such as risk-return, cost-benefit, target-profit, and break-even
