Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide a foundational understanding of managerial accounting by guiding students to identify and describe various accounting methods and to use and interpret essential accounting tools, including budgets, cost and profit analyses, the activity-based costing process, financial statements, income statements, and balance sheets.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the role of costs (fixed, variable, direct, indirect) in managerial decision-making.
  • Analyze income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to assess a company’s financial health and performance.
  • Calculate overhead costs using activity-based costing, identifying cost drivers and assigning indirect costs.
  • Evaluate business performance through preparing budgets (including master and flexible budgets) and managing a company's finances
  • Use financial data and managerial accounting tools to make sound decisions regarding pricing, production levels, and resource allocation.
  • Explain the implications of key CVP metrics (breakeven point, contribution margin, target profit) for business operations.
  • Apply process costing and job order costing methods to appropriate business scenarios.
