Description

Objective:

Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to organize, summarize, interpret, and present data using graphical and tabular representations and apply principles of inferential statistics. Topics include methods of sampling; presenting data; concepts of probability; probability distributions; normal, t-, and chi-square distributions; confidence intervals; hypothesis testing; and correlation and regression. Focus is on selecting and applying appropriate statistical tests, determining reasonable inferences, and making predictions from a set of data.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Implement an effective and appropriate research design
  • Calculate discrete and continuous probabilities
  • Create, interpret, and use graphs and tables to summarize data
  • Understand real-world applications of statistical methods and procedures
  • Conduct various hypothesis tests
  • Evaluate statistical information and conclusions in other sources
  • Examine correlation and linear regression
  • Communicate findings clearly, accurately, and effectively
