Description

Objective:

Intelligence Support to Marine Corps Planning Process introduces the students to the various challenges and requirements that face intelligence during each phase of planning. The students are first familiarized with how each of the following support the planning process: Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace, associated products such as Center of Gravity analysis, and the Initial Staff Orientation brief. Next, the course focuses on how collection management, including requirements development and operations management, support the follow-on phases of the planning process. The students will exercise each of these requirements and be presented with a variety of the challenges they may face during each phase of the planning process through a variety of war games, case studies, and practical applications

Learning Outcomes:

  • Analyze the major elements of the Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP) to assess their effectiveness in operational planning
  • Evaluate the intelligence cycle to identify strengths and areas for improvement, enhancing overall intelligence operations
  • Critically assess and contribute to the Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace (IPB) process in support of MCPP to optimize mission planning
  • Analyze the role of intelligence support within the MCPP to improve decision-making and operational outcomes
  • Evaluate and apply the key components of successful intelligence support to problem framing, ensuring comprehensive situational awareness
  • Conduct a detailed Center of Gravity (COG) analysis in support of the MCPP to identify critical factors and develop strategic recommendations
  • Apply and assess the principles of COG and Critical Vulnerability (CV) analysis to develop strategic responses in tactical situations
  • Design and implement effective collection management strategies in support of the MCPP, ensuring optimal intelligence gathering and resource utilization
  • Evaluate and apply the key elements of successful intelligence support to Course of Action (COA) development to enhance strategic planning
  • Analyze the key elements of intelligence support to wargaming, recommending improvements to enhance simulation accuracy and training effectiveness
  • Evaluate the role of intelligence support in targeting within a tactical unit to improve mission precision and success rates
  • Critically assess the key elements of intelligence support to COA comparison and decision, ensuring thorough evaluation of all potential outcomes
  • Analyze and enhance the key elements of intelligence support to orders development and transition, ensuring seamless operational execution
  • Create a comprehensive intelligence estimate that integrates diverse sources of information, providing actionable insights for planning purposes
