Description

Objective:

The course objective is to enable students to achieve a basic working understanding of both readings and listening to the Yakan dialect. The students will learn Yakan grammar and construct written compound sentences. Additionally, students will gain an understanding of the Muslim culture and religion and the impact on the Yakan day-to-day life. The students will be able to gauge their abilities through daily quizzes, exercises, iso-immersion training events, and assessment tests.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop a basic understanding of the Yakan dialect
  • Proficiently translate written and spoken Yakan using a dictionary and participate in basic conversations
  • Build vocabulary dealing with a broad variety of topics to include high frequency Yakan words, military, marketing, geography, cultural, religious, colors, numbers, weather and medical terminology
  • Gain an understanding of Islam as it relates to the Yakan Muslim culture
