Description

Objective:

In Company Level Intelligence Cell (CLIC) training, students will learn how to perform the intelligence functions as a member of a tactical intelligence team such as a CLIC, Direct Support Team, or other like structure; and they will gain an understanding of how tactical intelligence teams support current and future operations. At the beginning of the course, students will be introduced to the tactical planning process and will utilize it throughout the course as a framework to explore the functionality of tactical intelligence in support of a unit’s mission. They will conduct learning activities such as a historical case study, guided discussions, terrain model building, tactical decision games, and peer to peer briefing to help reinforce key concepts such as effective communication, tactical collections, and support to small-Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) operations. At the end of the course, students will work in groups to apply what they have learned by creating a full mission intelligence briefing in support of a fictional multi-phased operation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Evaluate the role and effectiveness of a Platoon’s Intelligence Representative in various operational scenarios to enhance mission success
  • Critically assess the contributions of the collections Marine within the CLIC to improve intelligence operations
  • Analyze the effects of weather on the company operations and develop strategies to mitigate adverse impacts
  • Provide tactical intelligence support to sUAS operations by analyzing mission requirements and recommending optimal use of intelligence assets
  • Create a detailed terrain model to effectively communicate mission complexities and enhance operational planning
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive intelligence briefs to maneuver elements, ensuring all pertinent information is accurately conveyed before missions
  • Evaluate the management of tactical site exploitation (TSE) teams to optimize their performance and support company operations
  • Employ and assess the effectiveness of tactical questioning (TQ) techniques during patrols to collect critical information aligned with the Commander’s Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIRs)
  • Demonstrate and critique tactical questioning of detainees to efficiently answer time-sensitive requests for information and gather valuable intelligence
  • Analyze and improve debriefing techniques for key mission personnel to enhance the collection of operational and intelligence information
