Objective:

The course objective is to examine personal decision-making about nutrition and explores concepts related to nutrition science, exercise, human growth and aging, safety of food supply, and the global view on nutrition.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Use a variety of nutrition information to increase your knowledge base
  • Discuss basal metabolism, various causes of obesity, and prevention and treatment techniques
  • Discuss issues involving global food supplies and their relationship to world hunger
  • Evaluate the variety of influences that affect your food choices
  • Identify macro- and micronutrients, their functions, and their effects on health and well-being
  • Identify the components of exercise and the nutritional fuel required to meet your exercise needs
  • Examine the differences in nutritional needs throughout the life cycle
  • Explain the various factors that affect the safety of food products and the new technologies that affect food supplies
