Description

Objective:

The course objective is to prepare the instructor candidate to function as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. The program further develops leadership and teaching abilities to the instructor level and prepares candidates to teach PADI courses. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors are qualified to conduct the entire range of PADI experience programs and PADI courses from Open Water Diver through Divemaster.

Learning Outcomes:

  • be able to conduct the entire range of PADI experience programs and core courses from Open Water Diver through Divemaster, as well as three PADI specialty diver courses, after successfully completing the separate two-day PADI Instructor Examination conducted independently by PADI staff
  • demonstrate instructor-level diving theory knowledge by successfully passing the Instructor Development Course (IDC) Final Dive Theory Exam
  • demonstrate the effective use of the PADI System components, including the PADI Instructor Manual, PADI's Guide to Teaching, as well as other instructional materials and resources when conducting PADI training
  • explain the role of standards in PADI training and compare the differences between standards and recommendations
  • demonstrate how the PADI Instructor Manual and other resources are used to answer realistic standards and procedures-related questions typical of those faced by instructors, by successfully passing the IDC Final Systems, Standards, and Procedures Exam
  • demonstrate a fundamental understanding of learning and instructional theories, performance-based training, and mastery learning
  • develop and present effective knowledge development teaching presentations using the PADI System for courses with and without student media support
  • demonstrate how to develop and present effective confined water presentations, applying appropriate control and risk management procedures, and following accepted teaching principles to determine student skill mastery
  • demonstrate how to develop and present effective open water presentations, applying appropriate control and risk management procedures, and following accepted teaching principles to determine student skill mastery
  • explain the importance of basic risk management, insurance requirements, legal concepts and issues related to teaching scuba, and apply local specifics to these broader principles, and develop an effective sales presentation, demonstrating a positive attitude toward selling customers dive equipment, training, and other services
