NHA’s Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) is designed to assess the knowledge and skills required of entry-level pharmacy technicians. Eligible candidates who successfully pass the ExCPT exam earn the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential. The exam is comprised of 4-option multiple choice questions (100 scored items, 20 pretest items), with a time limit of 2 hours and 10 minutes. The exam is administered by trained proctors either at PSI test sites or NHA-authorized military bases. To be eligible for the exam, candidates must either complete a training program or have relevant work experience. NHA does not provide qualifying training. The skills measured include role, responsibilities, and general duties; laws; drugs and drug therapy; dispensing process; medication safety; and quality assurance.
