Description

Objective:

The course objective is to convey cutting edge models and approaches to the core competencies areas of systems thinking for emergency management, leading complex systems, methodologies to take ideas from inception to innovation, net centric visioning and designing, presenting for impact. The course is highly interactive and includes relevant case studies and realistic simulation exercises for emergency management executives.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Theorize how complex situations and circumstances can be understood using the concept of systems thinking
  • Assess how theories of critical thinking relate to emergency management
  • Compare different models of decision making
  • Recommend decision making models to executive level emergency management issues
  • Organize patterns to identify components of a system, analyze their interconnectedness, identify emergence of new elements, recognize feedback loops, and determine causality
  • Defend the notion that systems thinking is applicable to emergency management
  • Evaluate how eight elements of critical thinking relate to intellectual standards
  • Relate the practice and process of critical thinking to emergency management
