Description

Objective:

The course objective is to understand the fundamentals of building science and multi-hazard mitigation design concepts.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe potential mitigation techniques, hazard-resistant design concepts and provisions in model building codes
  • Identify of mitigation strategies and methods for each hazard, current and emerging issues for each hazard, and technical resources in devolving mitigation strategies for each hazard
  • Apply knowledge of FEMA Building Science Branch publications and trainings
  • Understand the characteristics of natural hazards
  • Identify the risk to the built environment due to multiple natural hazards
