Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide federal, state, and local-level emergency responders with an overview of the key duties and responsibilities of a Planning Section Chief Type III serving on a Type III All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the course objectives and key position-specific resource materials relevant to the role of the Planning Section Chief.
  • Explain the functions, roles, and responsibilities of the Planning Section and its key units, including the Resources Unit, Situation Unit, Documentation Unit, and Demobilization Unit.
  • Describe the flow of information and communication through initial meetings, briefings, and documents within an incident management context.
  • Analyze the structure, timing, and purpose of meetings and briefings in the Operational Period Planning Cycle.
  • Demonstrate strategies for effective collaboration and communication with Planning Section staff, IMT members, and external personnel.
