Description

Objective:

This course is designed to enhance and strengthen the student’s functional use of Persian-Farsi at Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Level 3 (Professional Working Proficiency) by stressing active language production and accuracy to cultivate the capability to excel at more than passive language analysis tasks. The emphasis of this course is on speaking, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and writing. Speaking and writing are used to reinforce acquisition of lexical and grammatical skills. This course uses authentic language material covering various key topics (military, security, economy, politics, science, technology and culture).

Learning Outcomes:

  • transcribe content of an authentic Persian Farsi audio or video
  • identify essential elements of information from text and audio material
  • write an essay in Persian Farsi
  • produce written research results in Persian Farsi
  • define the meanings of selected vocabulary by using a dictionary
  • evaluate questions related to Persian Farsi text and audio
  • compare and contrast various sides of a subject in Persian Farsi
  • analyze written articles and audio material to determine content validity and intent
  • defend their opinion on a given subject in Persian Farsi
  • deliver an oral presentation in Persian Farsi
  • translate authentic Persian Farsi script into clear idiomatic English
