Description

Objective:

Through Level 2+/3 readings, listening, research, classroom discussion and other creative activities, students will master their ability to formulate important questions, articulate a persuasive and well-structured historical argument, and develop in-depth knowledge of multiple regions, cultures, and the factors that have shaped modern Russia

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify and analyze specific information as it relates to inferences about history, culture, and human behavior in medieval Russia
  • evaluate the elements of absolutist power of leaders that include Ivan III, Afanasy Nikitin, Ivan IV, Boris Godunov, Tsarevich Dmitry, The Romanovs and Peter I
  • identify the efficacy of leaders during medieval Russia with attention to specific norms and values, including those related to political authority, marriage, and family relations
  • prepare to defend personal opinions on discussion topics
  • analyze reading and listening passages and evaluate contextual and implied meanings of texts and video clips related to the accomplishments of significant Russian leaders between X-XVI centuries
