Description

Objective:

This course will provide the students with understanding of electromagnetic waves and relevant formulas; characteristics of transmission lines and the properties that affect how well a transmission line transfers power; the effect of mounting an antenna near other objects versus in free space; basic antennas and antenna arrays and their characteristics; performance characteristics of reflector and lens antennas; and predict receiving system performance by taking into account antenna noise, lossy transmission lines, compression points, SNTs, sensitivity, and minimum discernible signal levels

  • identify the changes that will occur in an information channel governed by the Shannon-Hartley law when various parameters are changed;
  • compare relative variations in field intensity and power density in free space
  • identify the factors that contribute to radio line of sight (RIOS)
  • recognize transmission lines associated with common applications

  • recognize antenna types and their associated characteristics
