Description

Objective:

This 12-week course is designed to produce grounded, skilled, technically proficient global/cryptologic language analysts capable of translating and transcribing Level 3 Spanish materials from a wide range of disciplines. The ACLP is comprised of intensive global Spanish training, operational training, and a 2-week in-country immersion.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Display mastery of Spanish grammar principles in the course by generating the correct grammatical form deleted from authentic Level 2+ texts, and correctly translating 'se' constructions and other grammatical elements in excerpts from authentic Level 2+
  • 2) Provide a verbatim transcript of excerpts from Level 2+/3 audio texts, demonstrating mastery of the transcription principles covered in class
  • 3) Paraphrase and gist a Level 3 Spanish article from a newspaper or news magazine
  • 4) Discuss the point of view of the author in excerpts from Diarios de Motocicleta and display mastery of the vocabulary presented in class
  • Provide an idiomatic English translation of a 300-500 word excerpt from the Spanish source materials covered in class for the government translation project
