Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce potential instructors and subject matter experts to classroom-teaching techniques; to learn techniques used to: meet the needs of the adult learner, organize and sequence content into a course lesson, platform and virtual delivery, question techniques, deal with challenging situations, classroom management, the use of classroom technology, and the practice of active learning strategies to increase student retention; to demonstrate and apply these principles and skills throughout the course through group discussions and presentations, case studies and hands-on activities; to plan, prepare, and present a 30-minute presentation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe key concepts, processes, and theories of how learning works to be able to explain the when, why, and how learners learn and how to facilitate this learning
  • Identify the key aspects of how knowledge is understood, constructed and communicated
  • Develop lesson plans using Bloom's Taxonomy to align objectives, assessments and activities and construct a lesson plan
  • Explain NextGen learning techniques and uses
  • Determine techniques for an inclusive learning environment
  • Develop active learning activities within disciplinary context to address learning objectives
  • Determine appropriate alternative assessment methods and when to use them
  • Produce a 30 minute lesson demonstrating effective teaching techniques
  • Identify and implement various teaching styles
  • Apply the principles of adult learning
  • Develop a strategy for classroom management to foster a positive and supportive learning environment
