Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide the students with grammar concepts as well as to develop the skills necessary to improve their reading and listening comprehension, and to increase their overall understanding of the Russian language and culture.

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify key concepts in factual texts on a variety of subjects
  • synthesize explicit and implicit information
  • demonstrate an understanding of verb conjugation, aspect, and government
  • recognize impersonal construction, and conditional and subjunctive mood
  • summarize content of an authentic Russian reading or listening passage and gist into English
  • recognize basic humor, irony and emotional overtones in colloquial Russian passages
  • determine the main point of the text and an author’s views, ideas, and opinion
  • compare lexicon at the main semantic phase with low frequency or high-level forms
  • analyze the meanings of vocabulary, sayings and set phrases, from context
  • research meanings of unknown vocabulary with the use of a dictionary
