Description

Objective:

The goal of this course is to develop students’ skills to comprehend common Chinese idioms and proverbs used in level 2+ to 3 texts, as well as how they are utilized in modern texts or speech.

Learning Outcomes:

  • interpret the meanings of common Chinese idioms and proverbs by using appropriate working aids
  • interpret meanings for common Chinese idioms and proverbs used in modern texts
  • translate common Chinese idioms and proverbs into clear idiomatic English
  • produce sentences in Mandarin Chinese using idioms and proverbs
  • analyze common Chinese idioms and proverbs used in level 2+ to 3 texts to deepen comprehension
  • produce original written compositions and oral presentations that appropriately incorporate common Chinese idioms and proverbs, demonstrating an understanding of their connotations or cultural significance, to be evaluated through a final project
