Description

Objective:

The objective of this course is to enhance students' language knowledge and mission-focused skills by providing them the tools and strategies to decipher, critically analyze, and fine-tune their oral, reading, and listening skills. Students will be exposed to a variety of cultures, attitudes, worldviews, and political situations from different parts of Latin America. Speaking and writing skills are strengthened through group discussions, debates, essays, and analysis of a variety of authentic Spanish written and audio materials at ILR (Interagency Language Roundtable) Level 3+/4* (ACTFL post-Superior).

Learning Outcomes:

  • prepare a 20-to-25-minute oral presentation on the project, including Q&A
  • analyze authentic ILR level 3+/4 Spanish written texts, providing main and supporting points
  • analyze authentic ILR level 3+/4 Spanish audio segments, providing main and supporting points
  • evaluate selected audio segments through contrast and comparison
  • compose ILR Level 3 written responses in the target language
  • express ILR Level 3 oral responses in the target language
  • critique authentic ILR Level 3+/4 Spanish content
  • debate topics at ILR Level 3
  • orally present ideas, concepts, viewpoints, and opinions based on authentic level 3+/4 Spanish content, utilizing professional and academic vocabulary, syntax, and argumentation
  • create a final Capstone Project, in Spanish, of at least 5-6 pages single-spaced (10-12 double-spaced), including a thesis, major arguments, supporting points, and conclusion
