Description

Objective:

The course objective is to enhance and strengthen the ILR Level 2 (Limited Working Proficiency) student's functional use of the language by stressing active language production and accuracy to cultivate a language analyst capable of excelling at more than passive tasks.

Learning Outcomes:

  • explain the cultural implications or references of a Dari proverb or joke
  • define key vocabulary and determine English denotation based on contextual clues, background knowledge, word formation, and syntax
  • employ basic Dari grammar concepts in the target language (including verb conjugation; verb stems; verb tenses; active/passive voice; conditional sentences; simple, complex, and compound sentences; and structure and syntax)
  • demonstrate comprehension of general facts and salient details by answering questions or summarizing in English
  • produce a grammatically correct transcript typed in native script
  • produce a clear, concise, idiomatic English rendering of the target text that accurately conveys the tone and meaning of the original
  • create a one-page report in Persian-Dari and deliver a 10-minute presentation in Persian-Dari
