Description

Objective:

The course objective is to enhance students' Spanish reading and listening proficiency to Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level 3+/4 and enhance their analytical, speaking, and writing skills by exposure to a wide range of activities and topics, including politics, economics, environment, science, history, and culture.

Learning Outcomes:

  • describe the main idea in an authentic Spanish ILR level 3/4 written text or audio segment
  • interpret the author's key argument in an authentic Spanish ILR level 3/4 written text or audio segment
  • identify key vocabulary and its meaning based on contextual clues, background knowledge, word formation, and syntax with at least 77% accuracy
  • select the essential elements of information in an authentic Spanish ILR level 3/4 written text or audio segment by answering questions, outlining, paraphrasing, and summarizing in English with at least 77% accuracy
  • compose constructed responses in Spanish or English to questions related to an authentic Spanish ILR level 3/4 written text and/or audio segment with at least 77% accuracy
  • identify the tone and the author's intent in an authentic Spanish ILR level 3/4 written text or audio segment, providing justification from the text; determine the correct meaning of higher register vocabulary items with at least 77% accuracy
  • deliver an oral presentation to instructor and students in grammatically correct, idiomatic Spanish that effectively relays information to the target audience
