Description

Objective:

The objective of this course is to improve students' grammar knowledge and competence by exposing them to complex grammatical structures as well as morphological and syntactical features to better understand and effectively interpret and decode language content. Students will be exposed to a variety of cultures, attitudes, worldviews, and political situations from throughout Latin America.

Learning Outcomes:

  • distinguish between correct and incorrect Spanish grammar usage
  • justify choices by citing Spanish grammar rules and exceptions
  • distinguish between subjunctive and indicative triggers
  • explain the uses of se (reflexive, passive, se = le(s), reciprocal)
  • compare/contrast use of grammar constructions (e.g., preterit/imperfect, ser/estar)
  • translate an authentic ILR Level 3 Spanish passage into idiomatic journalistic English
  • justify choices, citing Spanish grammar/usage rules and exceptions
  • summarize an authentic ILR Level 3 Spanish passage.
  • differentiate forms of formal and informal discourse structures in an authentic ILR level 3 Spanish text
