Description

Objective:

The course objective is for students to improve their colloquial Hebrew speech and slang, listening and reading comprehension, transcription, translation, writing, and cultural awareness. Speaking and writing are used to reinforce the proper use of lexical and grammatical forms and serve as an ongoing assessment/feedback tool for the instructor.

Learning Outcomes:

  • analyze audio passage material after listening once and without the use of working aids
  • answer content questions after listening to a passage once and without the use of working aids
  • estimate the meaning of unfamiliar words using context, roots and background without the use of working aids
  • identify specified grammatical forms and parts of speech (e.g. pronouns, gender, numbers, verb tenses, etc.) without the use of working aids
  • summarize portions or entire audio passages without the use of working aids
  • create transcriptions and translations of excerpts or entire audio passages, with controlled use of working aids
  • report the main idea of a written passage, analyze the passage, and answer general content questions without the use of working aids
