Description

Objective:

The GED® Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) test assesses a test taker’s ability to read closely, write clearly, and apply standard written English conventions. Aligned with career‑ and college‑readiness standards, the test emphasizes comprehension of complex nonfiction texts from academic and workplace contexts. Test takers analyze arguments, evaluate evidence, and complete an evidence‑based extended response task, demonstrating integrated reading, writing, and critical‑thinking skills.

Skills Measured:

The GED® Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) test measures foundational reading, writing, and language skills necessary for high school equivalency, postsecondary readiness, and workforce training. Specifically, the examination assesses the following topics and skills:

• Close reading of complex texts, particularly nonfiction from academic and workplace contexts
• Comprehension and analysis of arguments, claims, and evidence
