The GED® Science Test assesses a learner's ability to apply essential scientific reasoning skills—including analysis, evaluation, and inference—within authentic scientific contexts. Rather than requiring rote memorization of facts, the test emphasizes the interpretation of data, understanding of scientific concepts, and evaluation of evidence across life science, physical science, and earth and space science content areas. Test items provide necessary context, figures, and formulas as needed, allowing the assessment to focus on scientific reasoning and problem solving relevant to high school equivalency and postsecondary readiness.
Specifically, GED® Science Test assesses the following skills and topic areas:
• Scientific reasoning skills, including analysis, evaluation, and inference
• Comprehension and interpretation of scientific texts, data tables, charts, and graphs
• Evaluation of scientific evidence, including experimental results and research findings
• Application of scientific practices to solve problems in academic and workforce‑relevant contexts
• Life science concepts, such as human health, ecosystems, and biological processes
• Physical science concepts, including matter, energy, forces, and chemical interactions
• Earth and space science concepts, such as Earth systems, natural resources, weather, climate, and space
Test items provide necessary scientific context, figures, and formulas as needed, allowing the assessment to focus on reasoning and problem solving rather than rote memorization of facts.
