Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide a foundational understanding of mathematical concepts and techniques used in business decision-making. Students will explore topics such as algebraic manipulation, functions, linear models, systems of equations, exponential growth, finance, and linear programming. Emphasis is placed on applying these tools to real-world business, finance, and economic problems, enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The course bridges conceptual mathematical understanding with business applications through case studies, modeling, and analysis.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply algebraic operations, including exponents, radicals, and polynomials, to solve real-world business problems
  • Solve and analyze linear, quadratic, and rational equations and inequalities relevant to economic and financial contexts
  • Interpret and use functions, including linear, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions, to model business scenarios
  • Analyze graphs and use transformations to understand the behavior of various functions in economic forecasting and planning
  • Solve systems of linear and nonlinear equations using algebraic and matrix methods
  • Formulate and solve optimization problems using systems of inequalities and linear programming, including the Simplex Method
  • Apply time value of money principles to compute interest, annuities, loans, and investment returns using appropriate financial formulas
  • Use quantitative models to interpret, analyze, and make informed decisions in a business environment
