Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce students to the principles and practices of managerial accounting with a focus on internal decision-making processes. Students will explore how accounting data supports planning, controlling, and evaluating business operations. Topics include job and process costing, cost behavior, cost-volume-profit analysis, activity-based costing, quality and cost management, and responsibility accounting. Emphasis is placed on real-world applications, ethical considerations, and the use of accounting information to support strategic decision-making. Students will engage in written analyses, multimedia projects, and discussion forums to build communication and critical thinking skills within the accounting discipline.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Differentiate between financial and managerial accounting, including their goals, users, and reporting requirements
  • Apply key concepts of managerial accounting, including job order costing, process costing, and overhead allocation, to practical business scenarios
  • Construct and evaluate cost accumulation models and cost behavior patterns for both merchandisers and manufacturers
  • Analyze financial and managerial data using cost-volume-profit analysis to support internal decision-making
