Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce the principles of writing with emphasis on writing process, thesis, content, organization, purpose, and audience, while focusing on writing improvement through the practice of writing and reading.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate various phases of writing: draft, revision, final copy, brainstorming, free writing and outlining.
  • Compose an extended argument that persuades the reader
  • Demonstrate techniques of personal narrative, expository, analytical, descriptive, and argumentative writing modes
  • Apply proper punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure rules, as well as identify common mistakes made within various forms of writing.
  • Understand sources of writing: reading, thinking, analyzing, discussion
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the various forms of writing and the relationship between writer and audience
  • Access information and resources, documenting them utilizing MLA standards
