Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide the student with the broad frameworks, within which, enduring questions of existence, relationships, values, and aesthetics can be examined. The students must demonstrate their knowledge of facts (names, works); understand and interpret literary passages and art works; recognize medium, style, writer's characteristics and other techniques. Students must show their understanding of humanities by interpreting works of art, recalling specific information, and applying concepts. Concepts from the disciplines studied in this course are going to be integrated with contemporary American culture. The theme of the course is to bridge the past and present through art.

Learning Outcomes:

  • demonstrate understanding of humanities via recollection, information, comprehension of concepts
  • gain insight into the importance and impact of the humanities on human history and society
  • understand and differentiate the different periods from classical to contemporary in various fields: poetry, prose, philosophy, art, architecture, music, dance, theater and film
  • identify characteristics of certain writers, artists, schools or periods and analyze their contributions to the arts in the prevailing time period
  • describe and interpret the progression of the arts through the ages and their possible future trajectory
