Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide an overview of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and various patho-physiological processes and conditions; and to provide an overview interpretation and understanding of the statutes, rules, regulations, and procedures necessary to assist veterans and their families in acquiring appropriate benefits from federal and state agencies.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the basic structures and functions of the major human body systems
  • Describe patho-physiological and neuropsychiatric conditions commonly encountered by veterans seeking benefits
  • Define related medical terms; and employ research methodology necessary to interpret, evaluate, and apply governmental laws, regulations, and court decisions relating to the provisions of benefits

  • General policy in disability ratings
  • Organs of special senses
  • Anatomy and functions of all major organ systems and related medical terminology
  • Infectious diseases, immune disorders, and nutritional deficiencies related to these systems. Provides in-depth study of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations for adjudication of claims, and the VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities. Provides interpretation and understanding of the statutes, rules, regulations, and procedures necessary to assist military service members, veterans and their families in acquiring benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Includes study of appellate procedures for presentation and prosecution of appeals before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans’ Claims
