Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide response technicians basic knowledge behind technical radiological response actions and decisions. This course will provide basic concepts of radiological science, contamination control actions, federal regulations, planning reports, and radiation surveys.

Learning Outcomes:

  • understand the fundamentals of basic radiation science
  • identify how different types of matter interact with radiation
  • apply radiological units of measure to operational exposure guidance
  • state the functions of multiple radiation detector types
  • concepts of half-life and the inverse square law
  • identify methods of controlling radiation exposure and contamination
  • identify methods for conducting a radiological survey

  • Basic atomic chemistry radiological units of measurement (RUM) OEGs, ALARA and concepts of time, distance and shielding basic radiation detector theory introduction to controlling exposure and contamination basic radiation survey technique
