Description

Objective:

The course objective is to train first responders in the application of radiation detection and measurement systems. The course focuses on instrument theory, operation, and practical exercises. The course culminates with field application of detection instruments and interpretation of results.

Learning Outcomes:

  • review the fundamental science of ARRT-1;
  • calculate detector efficiencies for a Geiger-Mueller detector
  • properly employ a FIDLER detector;
  • apply principles of ALARA and OEGs to survey techniques;
  • conduct an environmental radioactivity assessment;
  • analyze proper survey procedures for a multiple live environments;
  • differentiate the applications of time, distance and shielding;
  • compose a command brief to deliver survey results;
