Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide entry-level knowledge and skills to members of the U.S. Armed Forces needed to fulfill the duties of a multidisciplinary assignment in public affairs, visual information, and communication in support of the commander's intent.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply the fundamentals of English and journalism to news, narrative stories, captions, and video scripts for use in both internal and external communication products
  • Use the principles of public affairs and communication in media and community engagement
  • Prepare information for public release in accordance with DOD directives
  • Apply basic principles of photography and videography to capture both still and motion imagery of controlled and uncontrolled action in support of themes and messages, and for historical documentation
  • Apply layout and design fundamentals in all products, including vector- and raster-based graphics, as well as integrated multimedia products they create for use in both print and browser-based platforms
  • Integrate and apply all knowledge and skills in both an individual and group capstone event, developing public affairs and visual communication products in support of a campaign
  • Apply design thinking principles to question effectively, identify problems and provide a solution-based approach within a communications framework
  • Apply the fundamentals of journalistic writing, still photography, videography, digital graphic design, and interactive multimedia within a communications framework in support of DOD operations, internal and external customers
  • Apply audio capture and editing techniques to integrate audio into video sequences and multimedia products
  • Create video products in support of military operations, training and public affairs missions
