Description

Objective:

The course objective is to help instructors/trainers gain a practical experience of the DEOMI training function. Through modeling of the best practices and latest techniques in training delivery, students will learn how to plan & prepare presentations; develop facilitation skills, as well as student assessment strategies. New trainers will gain a strong foundation in critical training skills and seasoned trainers will be introduced to new approaches for delivering powerful training.Instructors teaching the FTDC will use sound instructional methodologies, such as, Informal Lectures, Discussions, and Activities, as well as employ Experiential Education theory to ensure each student comprehends and applies adult learning and teaching theory (principles).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Know the foundation of Equal Opportunity (EO) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) in the DoD and the establishment of the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI)
  • Perform the roles and functions of a DEOMI faculty member
  • Employ the principles of adult learning theory in a live training environment
  • Analyze group behaviors for the appropriate level of interventions during small-group facilitation
  • Apply effective classroom management and administration skills
  • Analyze behaviors relevant to effective interpersonal skills needed by an equal opportunity professional
  • Present DEOMI lesson material
  • Analyze assessment strategies associated with student performance and feedback (Facilitative Interpersonal Counseling)
