Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce the Cyber Table Top (CTT) mission-based cyber risk assessment (MBCRA) methodology and apply it to help identify cyber vulnerabilities, determine mission impact and risk, propose mitigations, and inform other competencies, documents, and events across the acquisition lifecycle. The course establishes an understanding of the threat and “thinking like an adversary”; demonstrates attack surface characterization; employs cross-competency members, including users, to identify and prioritize cyberattacks / vulnerabilities in a Red / Blue / White Team “wargame” mission scenario; and analyzes data to report risk and mitigations in order to design and maintain cyber survivable and operationally resilient systems. Learners participate in exercises to reinforce and apply the CTT concepts and methodology. The case studies and scenarios build up in complexity, culminating in a mini-CTT execution and CTT out-brief for a fictitious weapons system at the UNCLAS level. This course is also the first step in obtaining the certified CTT facilitator certificate from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense Research and Engineering.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Using the process from the DoD Cyber Table Top Guide, summarize the Cyber Table Top methodology tailored to the program’s specific objective of the Cyber Table Top.
  • Using available system documentation, evaluate the attack surface of a warfighting capability.
  • Applying the Cyber Table Top methodology, generate the Cyber Table Top artifacts.
  • Examine the inputs to, outputs from and major activities in each of the Cyber Table Top four steps process.
  • Evaluate the system’s critical components and attack surface while considering the system architecture and data interface.
  • Generate analysis table for opposition force goals including mission impact, mitigations and final recommendations.
