Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide a broad overview of the Department of Defense (DoD) systems acquisition process and covers all phases of acquisitions. It introduces the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS); the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process; DoD 5000 - series policy and procedures documents; and current issues in systems acquisition management. This course is designed for individuals with little or no experience in DOD acquisition management and has proven to be very useful to personnel in headquarters, program management, and functional or support offices.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize the key drivers of the Department of Defense’s Acquisition Management System
  • Recognize the Joint Capabilities and Integration Development System (JCDIS) is a key driver of new defense acquisition program requirements.
  • Recognize the key activities and considerations of a phased-acquisition.
  • Recognize the resource allocation process in defense acquisition management.
  • Recognize the importance of cost-estimating techniques, defense budget appropriations, and the budget allocation process in defense acquisition management.
  • Recognize the significance of the contracting to acquire goods and services in DoD Acquisitions.
  • Recognize that the Systems Engineering Process is used to translate requirements into an integrated, system design solution.
  • Recognize the fundamentals of Test and Evaluation (T&E) in support of the acquisition process.
  • Recognize the importance of designing for sustainment and supportability planning to achieve system readiness requirements and reduce life cycle costs.
  • Identify intelligence community organizations, resources and requirements that support acquisition programs.
  • Recall foundational concepts related to program protection, cybersecurity and counterintelligence as used to support to an acquisition program.
