Description

Objective:

To help students analyze economic activity and understand the structure of financial institutions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define basic economic terms and concepts (i.e., macroeconomics, microeconomics, scarcity, supply and demand, diminishing returns, comparative advantage, equilibrium, etc.) and their applications
  • Use the production-possibilities curve
  • Identify the characteristics and functions of commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions and how they are chartered and regulated
  • Explain the differences between demand and quantity demanded and supply and quantity supplied, diagramming those on appropriate curves, and list the factors of price elasticity of demand and supply
  • List and explain the provisions of major financial legislation
  • Describe the conditions leading to various financial difficulties the legislation remedied
  • Describe the relationship between real GNP and employment, defining 'full employment' and the different kinds of unemployment
