Objective:

The course objective is to provide the student with an understanding of macroeconomics.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define economics and some related terms
  • Explain the concepts of markets, equilibrium, and the laws of supply and demand
  • Give examples of, and state opinion, on efficacy of market controls and intervention
  • Identify and look up five common economic indicators and list their current readings
  • Identify and describe major features of banking systems
  • Provide at least one reason for and one reason against an isolationist approach towards global trade
  • Describe and give examples of some alternatives to the Market Economy
  • Distinguish between monetary and fiscal policy, and their application to economic systems
  • Describe the efficient market theory
  • Give some recent examples of Federal Reserve policies/actions
  • Identify major markets/exchanges
