Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce students to the law of real property in day-to-day settings and to emphasize a clear set of rules that will enable students to recognize, solve, and prevent legal issues.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify and apply legal concepts regarding laws affecting real property acquisition, (either in fee simple or leasehold, and either in complete or partial ownership)
  • Understand and apply concepts related to lien creation, priority and termination
  • Identify the importance of legal descriptions and the procedures necessary to correctly identify real property
  • Understand the critical concepts in reviewing real property purchase contracts and leases, in both consumer and commercial contexts
  • Describe various ways of transferring real property ownership and the financing of the acquisition of real property
  • Discuss the transfer of real property after death - wills, trusts and estate formation.
