The AS Sports and Physical Education examination is composed of two parts. Component 1 is an externally assessed written component with a range of structured questions and extended response questions testing assessment objectives AO1 and AO2. Some questions will assess mathematical skills. Candidates are allow 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete this Component.
Component 2—Coursework—will be internally assessed and externally moderated by Cambridge International. Candidates are assessed in two physical activities from the physical activities available in this syllabus. There are 35 marks available for each physical activity. The assessment of performance will take place in competitive conditioned practices and formal competitive games, competitions or situations. Component 2 is marked against the assessment criteria. Centers must use the assessment criteria for Component 2 to assess their candidates. Centers must refer to the specific physical activity guidance for each physical activity alongside the generic assessment criteria for Component 2.
The assessment objectives (AOs) are: 1) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin performance and involvement in physical activity; 2) Apply knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin performance and involvement in physical activity; and 3) Demonstrate and apply relevant skills and techniques in physical activity.
