Credit is recommended for examinees scoring "E" or higher on either AS or A Level Exams. This exhibit is being recommended for a total of six semester hours for examinees who complete both the AS and A level exams. For examinees completing the AS level exam only, three semester hours Music Theory I is recommended.
Description

Objective:

At the AS Level, the Music exam consists of multiple papers and components. Paper 1 is a listening exam composed of 3 sections covering compositional techniques and performance practice, understanding music, and connecting music. Component 2 is a practical requiring a 6-10 performance and submission of two contrasting compositions 1-2 minutes each.

At the A Level, students take an additional two Papers requiring an extended Performance (Component 3) and an extended composition (Component 4) or an musical investigation (Component 5). For Component 3, the students must submit a 15–20-minute performance and a 1000-1500 word research report. If the student chooses Component 4, they must submit a 6–8-minute composition, with a 1000-1500 word research report. If the student chooses Component 5, they must submit a 2500-3000-word essay and a reflective statement up to 500-words

Marks from Paper/Components 1 & 2 are carried forward and combined with Components 3 & 4 or 5 to comprise the complete A Level.

Compose with technical, stylistic, musical and expressive control, and communicative awareness; and 4) Make connections and reasoned judgements in listening, performing, composing, and critically reflect on these.
