Description

Objective:

This exhibit and credit recommendation covers the Pure Mathematics at the AS Level (Paper 1 + Paper 2). This is noted on the examination transcript as Mathematics (Pure). Candidates are allowed 1 hour and 50 minutes to complete Paper 1 and 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete paper 2.

Skills Measured:

The Assessment Objectives are 1) Demonstrate mathematical knowledge and understanding of relevant mathematical concepts, terminology and notation and accurately recalling and using the appropriate mathematical manipulative techniques; and 2) Apply and communicate by recognizing the appropriate mathematical procedure for a given situation, applying appropriate combinations of mathematical skills and techniques in solving problems, and presenting relevant mathematical work, and communicate corresponding conclusions, in a clear and logical way.

These assessment objectives are measured across all possible Paper combinations. For pure mathematics (Paper 1), skills/outcomes include quadratics; functions; coordinate geometry; circular measure; trigonometry; series; differentiation; and integration. For pure mathematics 2 (Paper 2), skills/outcomes include algebra; logarithmic and exponential functions; trigonometry; differentiation; integration; and numerical solution of equations.
