Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide students with a solid foundation for managing HR challenges, supply a current reference of HR practices, and strengthen individual competencies. Utilizing the new study materials of the Society for Human Resource Management's Human Resource Learning System, the course also helps prepare human resource professionals to take either the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exam toward certification by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI®).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Evaluate both management and strategy in relation to human resources
  • Explore HR-related concepts, such as change management theory, methods, and application
  • Distinguish between workplace concerns, such as sexual harassment and sex discrimination
  • Communicate with employees about the complexities of the compensation and benefits system
  • Evaluate workplace behavior issues and develop an effective discipline policy
  • Negotiate and strategize in terms of collective bargaining
  • Predict and prevent accidents to ensure workplace safety through training and self-audits
  • Measure strategic outcomes, including financial measures and HR audits
  • Motivate the workforce utilizing the theories of motivation by Maslow, McClelland, Vroom, and Skinner
  • Review applicable federal laws and regulations that impact compensation (Wage and Salary and benefits)
  • Navigate government-mandated benefits and relevant statutes
  • Discuss employee privacy and how to maintain it in the workplace
